Social Media Marketing
The purpose of social media is to connect people.
It's easy to get caught up in all the social media hype - and even easier to get confused by it. The important thing to remember is the purpose of social media is to connect people. The real power here is not in the tools or technologies, it's in the people and conversations.
You may already be familiar with some social web platforms…
- Blogs (Wordpress)
- Mini-blogs (Tumblr)
- Micro-blogs (Twitter)
- Review sites (Yelp)
- Bookmarking sites (Delicious)
- Social networks (Facebook, LinkedIn)
- Video sharing sites (YouTube)
...but none of these is worth much to you (or your bottom line) if you don't have a purpose for using them.
As part of the web strategy, using social media can be a powerful tool for customer service, reputation management, and improvement of products or services. Being able to reach out to customers online, find them where they are, learn about their needs, and influence their perception of your brand is what it's all about.
