Tracy Mailloux, our long-beloved BBM Studios Production Director, is packing up and moving to Chicago in pursuit of furthering his education. Tracy started working at Robert Sharp & Associates nearly ten years ago as a key player in developing our in-house commercial and video production department. Since then, Tracy has worked absurdly hard every day to bring the team to the level of success we now enjoy. Of course we will miss him, but we’re also excited about his new adventure. Good luck Tracy!

On a happier note, there is quite a lot going on at RSA. We didn’t think it was possible, but Q3, 2009 was even busier than its ‘08 predecessor. With new staff, new clients, seminars, events, successes and babies (congratulations Stacie Granum), we keep moving forward.

Western Dakota Tech (WDT) is reporting record-high enrollment with a 20% increase over fall of 2008! According to WDT, they have added additional class sections to keep classes to effective sizes. More than half of WDT’s programs reached capacity this fall. Some programs already have students enrolled for next year.

The 2009 South Dakota State Fair carnival also exceeded historic sales records. During the fair, the carnival operation, Gold Star Amusements, experienced the highest sales in their establishment’s history since 1992.

Traditional advertising isn’t going anywhere.

The marketing industry is all a-buzz with social media right now. How do I use Twitter to market my business; what about Facebook and the rest of the Internet? This is all fine and good, but what about traditional advertising?

Let’s not forget the importance of a good, solid traditional advertising campaign – especially with the holidays coming up. Radio, television, billboards and even newsprint have stood the tests of time and continue to be highly effective marketing and advertising tools.

Look at eHarmony, for instance. This is a 100% Internet-based company, yet they are among the top television advertisers in the nation. Why? Because eHarmony understands the power television has to make them visible to their audience. And it works. If I were to ask you to name an Internet dating site, is eHarmony not the first one to mind? The second, maybe, being Match.com - who also does a lot of traditional advertising.

A well crafted television commercial is able to send a unique message and reach people differently than the Internet can. Sometimes the best way to let people know you even have a website is through a good TV commercial.

And remember when satellite radio entered the scene? It was predicted that local radio stations would disappear. Not so! The same can be said for cable advertising versus broadcast television. Your local stations show a steady increase in listeners and viewership, tracked by national Arbitron and Nielsen ratings. They continue to be the most reliable source for local news, entertainment and community support.

Marketing budgets should be balanced with both new and traditional media to stay competitive. Do you want to boost your marketing ROI? Contact us to discuss how to best allocate your marketing budget and find the right balance.
