What's New in BBM Studios

Where's Summer?

Vice President / Production Director
Tracy Mailloux

Where's summer? Seriously... where is summer? Don't get me wrong, I enjoy all the moisture we are receiving, but we are mid-way through July, and I still look like an albino. Just a little bit of sunshine on the weekends is all I ask.

The cool start to summer hasn't slowed us down much in the video department. It may have postponed some shoots, but overall, we are working hard to meet deadlines and still producing top-notch, award winning video and audio.

The first commercial I want to showcase is for J. Scull Construction. Originally we did a web commercial to go onto the City of Rapid City website. The weather changed the dynamics a little bit, but we were able to pull off some fantastic shots. Andy Scull of J. Scull Construction was so pleased with the commercial that he wanted to revamp it to play as a TV commercial too. It hasn't hit the airwaves yet, but here is a sneak preview for you.

Stonewalls Restaurant offers pizza, pasta, and a whole lot of freshness. To help them raise awareness of their delicious food, we produced some TV spots that would make a fasting monk ask for seconds. Keep in mind, it is always a challenge to do savory food justice on video. However, Stonewalls' food looked so fantastic, even an amateur videographer could make their meals shine. Watch the video and make plans for a night out to Stonewalls on Highway 16.

'Tis the season for tourism. This year Reptile Gardens is pushing the "Adventures in your own Backyard," theme along with Robert Sharp & Associates, promoting the ever-popular "Staycation." To compete with the funny commercials last year, we wanted to continue the zaniness. Check out this ad to see if it tickles your funny bone.

Today’s successful commercials need to be not only memorable in traditional media but also have online viral value as well. We produced 3 commercials for Western Dakota Tech that combined elements of physical comedy and impossible jobs. We collaborated with WDT to come up with 3 jobs that would force yourself to ask the question, "need a better job?" The final selections were "pinata man", "shredder guy", and "assistant on a leash". They were all fun to shoot because someone or something was always falling or being flung across the room. Enjoy, and look for them online as well.

Video Spots

Congratulations to Neal Wanless of Winner South Dakota, 232.1 Million Dollars! This was a big event for Mr. Wanless, the South Dakota Lottery and BBM Studios. We helped host the news conference by providing audio, lighting and staging. The story went worldwide, and Mike Mueller at the Lottery Office said we made them shine.

BBM Studios has also been fortunate enough to team up with Crow Ridge Productions of Hill City to help truTV finish shooting video for their series about the Full Throttle Saloon in Sturgis. The pilot episode will air a week or two before this year's Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. I was the videographer, and Rick VanNess was the audio technician.

In addition, we had extra help around our department over the last couple of weeks. Robert Headrick (Little Robert is how I refer to him) interned with us over the last six weeks to gain credit towards his college degree. He is studying Digital Cinema at John Brown University in Arkansas. Before coming back to the USA for college, Robert grew up in Tanzania, Kenya and Germany.

It has been a great first half of the year, and we are looking forward to continuing that trend. We have many great projects on the horizon, and are looking for more challenges to help us grow.

Regards,
Tracy Mailloux
